Mechanical Engineer
Department

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer with experience in optical pluggable products (e.g., optical transceivers, AOCs, ACCs, DACs, or similar). In this role, you will be responsible for the mechanical design, analysis, and development of high-performance THz modules used in next-generation data centers and AI centers.

Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Full-time
Key Responsibilities

· Design and develop mechanical components and enclosures for OSFP form factor THz active cables and transceivers.

· Ensure designs meet industry standards for form factors, thermal performance, EMI shielding, and manufacturability.

· Collaborate with board / package / chip engineering teams to optimize layout and component placement within size-constrained modules.

· Perform tolerance stack-up analysis, thermal simulations, and stress/strain analysis using tools such as SolidWorks Simulation, ANSYS, or similar.

· Support thermal management strategies including heatsink design, airflow analysis, and materials selection.

· Generate 3D models, 2D drawings, BOMs, and documentation for prototyping and volume manufacturing.

· Work closely with suppliers and CM partners to ensure DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and DFX (Design for Excellence).

· Participate in failure analysis, root cause investigations, and reliability testing of optical modules.

· Stay up to date on industry trends and standards (e.g., MSA specs, IEEE, OIF, etc.) related to optical form factors and interconnects.

Required Qualifications

· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

· 3+ years of mechanical design experience, with at least 1–2 years focused on optical pluggable modules or high-speed interconnect products.

· Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, or similar) and mechanical drafting standards.

· Experience with mechanical and thermal analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS, Icepak, COMSOL).

· Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes (e.g., die casting, stamping, CNC machining), and surface treatments.

· Familiarity with optical module MSA standards and design constraints.

· Excellent problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Experience with design and thermal management of 400G/800G+ optical modules.

· Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., QSFP-DD, OSFP) and compliance requirements.

· Knowledge of reliability testing methods (e.g., HALT/HASS, shock & vibe, temperature cycling).

· Hands-on experience with prototyping, debugging, and testing of optical modules.

· Experience working with offshore manufacturing and supply chain partners.
